Cosy, characterful and tucked into the hillside...

Elliots Stables

Elliotts Stables is made for cosy countryside stays for two. Start the morning with coffee outside, spend the day exploring, then come back to the hot tub, a BBQ and the warmth of the stove as the evening draws in.

Originally built as stables in the early 2010s, Elliotts was later transformed into our first holiday cottage and welcomed its first guests in December 2021.

Inside, the kitchen, dining and lounge areas flow together in an open-plan living space, while the bedroom and bathroom are both separate.

Built partly into the hillside, Elliotts has lower ceilings that give it a wonderfully snug and intimate feel. The two-person dining table sits in a cosy nook, creating a proper little place to sit together for breakfast or dinner.

The separate bathroom has both a walk-in shower and a full bath, ideal for a long relaxing soak after a day out exploring.

The interior is styled in browns, soft greys and pinks, layered with cushions and throws, with countryside-inspired details throughout. A horse picture adds a gentle nod to the building’s original use and rural setting.

Named after Elliott, the cottage will always hold a special place in the story of The Rivington Collection.

Countryside almost at the window

The neighbouring farmland sits immediately behind Elliotts Stables, bringing the countryside incredibly close.

Cattle are often in the surrounding fields between around April and November. Their presence can’t be guaranteed, but when they are nearby they can come within around a metre of the back of the cottage. They regularly wander past the windows and hot tub, and often gather at the corner of the field.

Some can be especially inquisitive and have even been known to stop and peer through the windows.

The fields to the side are also visited by deer. In spring, you may hear woodpeckers drumming in the trees behind the cottage, while in the evenings you may hear owls calling nearby. Buzzards can often be seen circling overhead too.

There is a lovely sense of being part of the countryside around you, while still having your own private space to switch off and enjoy the stay.

From morning coffee to evening hot tub…

Elliotts Stables catches both the sunrise and the sunset, giving the cottage and outdoor space a lovely change of light across the day.

Start the morning with coffee outside, then come back after a day exploring for a BBQ, a soak in the hot tub or a quiet evening beside the wood-burning stove.

A note from David
When we started transforming Elliotts Stables into our first holiday cottage, I was nervous. The costs were mounting and I had no idea whether anyone would actually come and stay.
It took a little while to become established, but its success eventually gave us the confidence to create Joan’s Piggery.
Elliotts is named after my youngest son, Elliott, while my eldest son, Stephen, helped with the building work when he was still young himself. Like so much around Tan Pits Farm, family has been at the heart of it from the beginning.
We always respect our guests’ peace and privacy, but over the years some have returned again and again. A few have become more like friends than guests.
Elliotts will always be special to me. It was where this part of our story began.
